How to leverage Chat GPT and Gemini to create great case studies
Chat GPT, Gemini and other LLM AI assistants can be a great help with many things. The established and increasingly popular set of Artificial Intelligence tools can help you to research, organize and do amazing things with any topic area. If you want a report on some aspect of your business, simply input the data, give Chat GPT specific instructions, and voilà, out comes the report. If it’s not perfect at first, give Chat some more commands and it will refine.
Chat GPT and like tools are also a boon for marketing. Input your corporate colours, corporate brand guidelines, the information you’re working with, give it some guidance and you can create letterhead, brochures, ads and more just the way you like them. It’s a huge time saver! Chat GPT won’t replace a talented designer or creative director just yet, but that day may come.
Great case studies made with Chat GPT
Yes, you can make amazing case studies with AI tools and here’s how to do it. First off, if you’re going to create more than one case study, create a custom Case Study GPT. That way, as you refine your case study, the direction you give Chat to refine your case study will be incorporated into the next one that you build.
Next, if you have a case study you like the looks of, feed it to Chat GPT as an example of good composition. You can also ask Chat GPT to research and use best practices in terms of formatting, length and style.
Then, input all of the information that you have for the case. The more the better. If applicable, make sure to tell Chat GPT whether it can find supplementary information as well on the Internet, or if it should rely entirely on what you give it. You can feed Chat website page addresses (URLs), documents, transcripts, meeting notes…anything that it can read. As with all case study creation, the more detail you can include, especially around specific results and testimonials, the more convincing and effective your case study will be.
Once you’ve put it in and let Chat GPT know your length, tone and other requirements… see what comes out! Chat loves to send information back in bullets, so if there are too many bullets and not enough paragraphs, simply ask it to rewrite most or all of it in paragraph form. If it’s too short, ask Chat to add detail and make it longer. If it’s too long, ask chat to shorten it by X number of words, or a certain percentage. You get the idea. Tell Chat GPT what to do to improve the piece, and make sure that it uses these lessons to inform future case study chats (for ongoing improvements, it must be within the framework of a custom Case Study GPT).
What Chat GPT can’t do
AI tools like Chat GPT can absolutely help you write effective, well-written case studies. They are great at gathering information and at putting it into the order and format in which you want it. But there’s a major caveat: they can’t help with client interaction. While AI tools can write for you, they can’t help you to interview your customers, capture great quotes and video footage, nor make the inferences that help case studies to really come alive.
Sure, if you have a transcript of an interview or conversation you had with someone on the customer team, Chat GPT can pull out some of the best points. But you need that interaction.
Chat GPT is also not able to create passable video (it can currently generate images), but there are AI tools that can. Such videos can absolutely be used for marketing, but not for case studies that involve customers, as they are artificially generated. For case studies you ideally want customers on camera; you definitely need customer permission to create a case study that features them; you need to use actual customer quotes; and of course customer approval to use what you create.
Gather information, record an interview, and use your preferred AI assistant to whip the information you have collected into a decent case study. Then you can use AI to build it out in an aesthetically pleasing way. Good luck!
